Civic Scholar Milestone Expectations

Becoming a Civic Scholar is an exciting journey of community engagement, leadership development, and personal growth. To ensure your success in the program, throughout a civic scholar's time at UM. These expectations are designed to guide you step by step, fostering meaningful experiences and ensuring a student is prepared to make a lasting impact. Review the semester-by-semester milestones below to stay on track and make the most of your Civic Scholar journey!
Each Semester:
  • Advising Sessions: One session is required every semester
Sophomore Year:
  • Spring Semester: 
    • Capstone Pre-Approval Form: Must be completed by March 15th 
Junior Year:
  • 4 community Engagement Courses: These should be in progress to ensure completion by the first semester of the Senior year
  • Service and Leadership Development Experiences: Should be in progress to ensure completion by the first semester of the Senior year 
Senior Year
  • First Semester:
    • 4 Community Engagement Courses: Must be completed
    • 3 Service and Leadership Development Experiences: Must be completed
    • Capstone (70 hours): Must be completed 
  • Final Semester: 
    • Reflection Seminar: Must be completed 
    • Reflection Papers and Capstone Time Log: Must be submitted on Blackboard by the end of the semester in which they are completed
